Christopher Wood is an artist who believes in beauty. Formally trained in character animation and steeped in figure drawing, Wood’s compositions in traditional or digital media evoke worlds beyond the surface. Wood’s work in any medium is marked by a combination of accurate observation and wild imagination – characters that are both photorealistic and cartoonish playfully straddle the uncanny valley. As an instructor at the California institute of the Arts, Wood teaches students to go beyond simply replicating the human form while nurturing each student in finding their creative voice. In addition to teaching at CalArts, he is also an exhibiting artist, having shown in several well-know gallerists in the Los Angels area. As a freelance artist, he also takes on client-based projects, creating visuals and illustrations for album covers, pitch presentations, and 3d models.
